First Day of the Day of the Dead

By DIANA HERRERA

Yesterday began the Mexican culture of the Day of the Dead. What’s the Day of the Dead you may ask? I’ll explain to you the Mexican culture that we celebrate. With this multi-day holiday, we involve our family and friends to pray to our loved ones that have passed away and help them on their spiritual journey. With our Mexican culture, we view death as a natural human part of the life cycle, we don’t see the day as sadness because we know on that day that they come awake and celebrate with us. A typical tradition that goes along with it is making an altar called the Ofrenda. The Ofrenda will usually include Calaveras, marigolds, the favorite foods and drinks of the passed away ones. We and will also visit the graves leaving them as gifts.
