Dress code: why is it enforced? Dress code was made to prevent kids from dressing in prerogative ways that are too “inappropriate” for school. However, do some schools enforce it a little too harsh? Some teachers are dress coding students who are wearing a sweater over a tank top. The reasoning behind dress coding this type of wear is “you’re not going to wear the sweater all day”. The school is assuming something that shouldn’t be assumed. They are pulling students out of class and interrupting our learning because they “assume” we’re going to take our sweatshirts off. Also, are teachers being too harsh on females when it comes to violating the dress code? When it comes to females it’s hard to find pieces of clothing that show less or that are appropriate. Males’ clothing is much less revealing and easy to shop for but when you walk into a store for females you’re bound to find crop tops all over the place. Administration isn’t aware of what is being sold in stores and how hard it is to shop for females. I feel that dress code should be enforced, but only to an extent. I shouldn’t get dress coded for wearing a tank top and a sweater over it.
