Disney+ Review

On Tuesday, November 12th, 2019, Disney fans were gifted the highly anticipated exclusive Disney Streaming Service “Disney+.” The service includes just about every single Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars film, short, and TV Show (ones excluded are either still tied into previous streaming deals, or are politically incorrect/controversial). Disney closed their acquisition of Twenty-First Century Fox earlier this year, allowing them to include their films and tv shows, ie: Home Alone and The Simpsons. The service also includes National Geographic educational films and shows.

The service launched with two Disney+ exclusive films: Lady and the Tramp, a live-action adaptation of a Disney classic, and Noell, an original holiday comedy. Along with its films, the service launched with ten exclusive series: The Mandalorian, a Star Wars series following the fall of the Empire, The Imagineering Story, a documentary series showing the behind the scenes magic of the Disney Parks, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, exploring the history and science of objects with Jeff Goldblum, and so on. The series will release their episodes on a weekly basis. Disney has plans to release multiple Marvel series that will tie in with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, none of them are currently available to the service.

Disney+ costs $6.99 a month, much less than Netflix’s $12.99 monthly bill. The service is quite impressive for its cost and quality of content, and the numbers show that as 10 million people signed up on the first day. The service is only available in the US, Canada, and the Netherlands at the moment, however next year, the service will be available worldwide. Once this happens, Disney+ may become just as big as the biggest streaming services out there such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO.
