Over the weekend, one of the biggest award ceremonies of the year took place. During the 92nd Academy Awards, the film Parasite took home most of the significant trophies of the night. The film won Best Original Screenplay, Best International Feature, Best Director, and Best Picture. Many are praising this decision, as Parasite is the first Korean film to take home Best Picture. The nominees for Best Picture were Parasite, 1917, Ford v Ferrari, Joker, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Irishmen, Little Women, Jojo Rabbit, and Marriage Story.
Other crucial wins during the night include Toy Story 4’s Best Animated Feature win and Joaquin Phoenix’s Best Actor win. Joaquin Phoenix portrayed Arthur Fleck in the most recent DC film Joker. Phoenix is the first actor to win the Best Actor Oscar for the Joker character since Heath Ledger in 2009, who unfortunately passed away before receiving the Oscar.
Many film fans and celebrities were very pleased with the outcomes of this year’s Academy Awards and look forward to next year’s.
