I have no doubt that it is extremely important to give kids a creative outlet to express their imagination through pictures and drawings, but the idea of vandalism on public property has and will always be an issue. It happens not only in schools but in public restrooms all over the country. Vandalism in the bathrooms, in particular the boy’s bathroom, has gotten so bad that scanning ID’s to use the restroom will be our new normal. As a school and as students, we need to do better. El Diamante offers so many art classes, after school programs, and clubs that provide a safe space to express that same creativity; just not on school property. We have to make a decision to respect all the students and faculty that use the restrooms on a daily basis. If you have any ideas on how to handle the graffiti issue, please speak up. whether it be to administration, a teacher, or a staff member. Use your voice to make a difference.
