For years, I have been fascinated by what other people love to do. I know what I love, but what is it that drives other people? Does it affect their grades? I set out on a mission to find out exactly what it is a few people truly enjoy.
My first victim was a student here at El Diamante named Samantha Torres. Her passion or hobby is collecting and caring for plants. This is certainly interesting given that almost every teenager loves doing things that do not seem as mature like that. Ms. Torres became interested in plants after watching one grow and become full of life when she was younger. She and her sister would own one together and she fell in love with plants. She said that it provides her an escape from life’s draining day to day routine. By keeping this collection of house plants, she says that collecting “provides observational skills as well as memory improvement”. Claiming that they provide a gateway to many other skills that could become useful in future life. She maintains steady grades.
