Recently, new advancements in car driving technology have made a big splash in the auto world. This new version of self-driving automobiles is paving the way for new technology. But, this technology is not fresh in the minds of automobile inventors and entrepreneurs. In 1939 an exhibit in the New York World’s Fair showed “future automobiles” which displayed an idea of self-driving cars or better yet known as autonomous cars. Also in 1939, Norman Bel Geddes invented the first self-driving car. But, obviously, it was not yet reality but just an idea. In 1958 this invention became a reality, but once again it was not open to the public. In 1977 Japan hopped in on the idea of self-driving cars. They finally made a product that really worked, but its speed was limited. Now GM and Honda have joined forces and created a 6 seated, electric, and most importantly it is a self-driving car. As we know more high-end cars have explored this idea like the popular Tesla. But questions have arisen on whether this is truly a viable future and whether or not this is a safe route for innovation. People are now putting their lives in the hands of sensors and cameras combined to help safely chauffeur them around. Only time will tell if this will catch on and if self-driving cars will rule the roads.
