Hurricane Laura reached a category 4 and has tied as the strongest hurricane to make landfall since 1856. Peak wind speeds of 150 mph were recorded when the hurricane made landfall. Surge flooding reached thirteen feet on the coast of Louisiana. Residents were evacuated but unfortunately some still got caught up in the storm. Houses all along the coast of Louisiana were blown to pieces by the strong wind. Nineteen deaths have been attributed to Hurricane Laura. Half of the deaths were due to carbon monoxide because of unsafe use of generators. Many residents are unsure about settling back down on the coast of Louisiana because of the damages done from not only this hurricane but others from the past. As they are recovering, officials worry of a spike in Coronavirus cases.
