Today I had the opportunity to interview one of our new teachers this year. I would like to introduce Mrs. Andrews, who teaches English 1 and 2.
What made you decide to become a teacher?
I became a teacher after realizing that I did not enjoy law school. I realized I wanted to work with students and make an impact in student’s lives like my teachers did when I was in school.
How long have you been teaching? Any other schools, grade levels, or subjects they have taught? I have been teaching for 2.5 years now. I joined El Diamante this year after having taught English 1, English 3, and Speech and Debate at Orosi High School.
What is it they love about the subject they teach? I love English because there is so much creativity in it. You can really put a voice in your writing and make it your own. Plus I love to read, and teaching English gives me an excuse to read more books.
What do they think of distance teaching? I find distance learning to be challenging but also a great learning experience. My former district used distance learning in the spring, so I had the benefit of already knowing some distance learning programs. I think it allows us the ability to use different tools and try out new programs we never used when we were in person.
Do they have any special hobbies? What do they do after work to relax? For hobbies I have a couple odd ones. I knit and I spin my own yarn using a spinning wheel. I am a runner and run at least 5 days of the week. Last year I trained for a half marathon.
Also any facts you’d like for the students to know about you. I suppose for other fun facts is that I have twin brothers who attend El D and my brother graduated from El D just a couple of years ago.
