On March 11th, 2020, Tulare County recorded its first Covid-19 case, since then the county has taken many steps and precautions in response to its increasing numbers. On September 2nd, 2020, Tulare County updated the County website confirming our current Covid-19 cases to be 14,442. In response to these numbers the County has also updated the health and safety precautions, which should be followed by its residents.

Health wise, Tulare County has responded to Covid-19 by creating multiple testing spots that limit individual contact, and separates hospital patients from those getting tested. One testing location, that may sound familiar to residents of Visalia, is hosted by the Kaweah Delta Hospital. Tulare County has asked its residents to use the number 2-1-1 if they suspect they may have Covid-19, or have come into contact with someone who has it. Tulare County has also made strict notice to remind its residents that they should not walk into the Hospital if they suspect they may have Covid-19.

Economically, Tulare County has stated that they wish to take steps towards a “reopening” and an economic recovery. Tulare County has taken initiative towards these goals by creating a “Tulare County Recovery Roadmap to Re-open” plan.

Regarding Visalia’s take on this plan some city services have been opened, while others remain closed. City buildings that are currently open include Animal Care Centers, Fire Stations, and Police Stations. The city buildings that are currently closed to the public are City Hall East, City Hall West, the General Services Department, the City Administrations Center, and the Convention Center.

In response to concerts on public health, Tulare County has also created a public paper that contains advice and expectations individuals should follow to protect themselves and others. This includes wearing a mask outside, staying 6-feet apart from others, and staying at home unless it’s for mandatory/emergency errands.

Covid-19 is a serious issue, and Tulare County has been updating the public on its plans and responses to concerns. As a community, we should all take notice and follow the health and safety precautions to help combat Covid-19. If individuals of the public wish to see the Tulare County updates, please visit the counties website, which is updated whenever anything to note takes place.
