Big 10 and PAC-12 Football

The two conferences, Big 10 and the PAC-12 are the last two POWER-5 conferences yet to start their college football seasons. Today the Big 10 Conference officially announced that their season will start on the October 23-24 weekend which is huge news for College Football. On the other hand, the PAC-12 has yet to start or even announce when they are thinking about starting their season.

The fires that are currently happening on the West Coast are not helping the case for the PAC-12 to start their season not to mention the COVID-19 concerns as well. Larry Scott, the Commissioner of the PAC-12, came out with a statement today explaining that he still doesn’t feel comfortable starting the season any time soon which is not good news for the fans and players. There have been many different discussions on whether or not they should start the season and what precautions they need to take to help best prevent the spread of COVID and also look out for the health of the players because of the bad air quality. Hopefully the fires will be contained by the time they figure out when the season will start so they have one less thing to worry about. It has been said by an anonymous coach in the PAC-12 that he feels that, “we’re in an entirely different world here than the rest of the country”. That seems to be pretty accurate because everyone else is starting their respective season while the PAC-12 has really not made any lead-way towards starting a season with at least no news of it that has hit the media yet. President Trump helped lead the Big 10 conference to starting their season which they ended up figuring out and it seems like he played a big role in that decision but it doesn’t seem like Trump has tried to contact the commissioner of the PAC-12.

Hopefully the PAC-12 conference can figure things out while taking the necessary precautions and start the season. The players want to play, the fans wanna watch, the schools and the conference wants to make money and they would lose a lot of money if they don’t have a season. Without a season, it will hurt not only the players, but it will also hurt the conference as a whole for years to come.
