One of the most influential movements from our time has been the Black Lives Matter movement. The tragedy of George Floyd’s death swayed U.S. public opinion in favor of the Black Lives Matter movement while drawing wide attention to the problem of entrenched racism in American society. More than 550 million people participated in less than a month all around the U.S in June. On June 6, for example, at least 50,000 people turned out in Philadelphia, 20,000 in Chicago’s Union Park and up to 10,000 on the Golden Gate Bridge. More than $8 billion worth of property damage has been caused because of all these riots that the Black Lives Matter movement has caused. We also had a movement here in Visalia that also had an incident occur as well. The incident happened while people were protesting down Mooney when some people saw a Jeep with 2 American flags in the back and started throwing stuff at the car, so when the Jeep tried to leave someone stood in the middle of the street so the Jeep couldn’t leave but the Jeep decided to go while the person was in the middle of the street so the person got hit. As of right now that BLM movement has calmed down, but who knows if it will erupt again like it did in June.
