In this new segment called “This or That” I will be discussing two topics that are generally opposites of one another. For both topics, I will give the pros and cons of each side in an unbiased manner to let you choose which side is best. In this week’s edition, we have, being a child vs being an adult.
Let’s start with being a child around 4-13 years old. As a child, the world is your sandbox for creativity. In general, children live in a stress-free environment that allows them to relax and play all day without a care in the world. Additionally, ignorance is bliss, and since children aren’t aware of all the problems in the world they don’t have to be scared or worried about the environment changing or taxes to pay. On the other hand, there are quite a few cons about being a child. To start, you have almost no freedom due to the restrictions enforced by parents in your day to day life from when you fall asleep to when you can hang out with friends. To add, as a child you tend to care substantially more what others think about you even if you don’t know them. Finally, as a child, you are restrained to your house or a nearby park since you are unable to drive. Now with this in mind, let’s explore the pros and cons of being an adult.
As an adult, you receive almost complete freedom, as long as you don’t break the law, which is one major perk. Furthermore, as an adult, you can drive almost anywhere you want, which goes hand in hand with a con of having to pay for the gas. Additionally, when you are an adult you will have a job that will provide you with money that will open up a much larger range of things to do for entertainment. But on the other end of the spectrum, as an adult, you have a series of bills and taxes you have to pay that is a major stressor. To add, as an adult you are aware of the many problems of the world that restricts you from being happy 24/7. To conclude, being a child or adult both have their pros and cons, but what do you think is better?
