Bipolar Disorder is a mental health disorder caused by extreme highs and lows. Symptoms usually begin in early adulthood and may continue lifelong. People with this disorder experience manic, hypomanic, and depressive episodes. Manic symptoms include rapid thoughts, extreme talkativeness, and lack of a need for sleep. These manic symptoms last for at least one week.

Hypo-manic symptoms are the same as manic symptoms, however they tend to be less severe and the duration of symptoms is at least four days. Depressive episodes include feelings of worthlessness, inability to concentrate, and lack of appetite or weight loss. A person with this disorder may also experience psychotic symptoms during a manic or depressive episode. These symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, and disorganized speech and behaviors.  Although stigma sometimes prevents people from seeking treatment trying to manage symptoms individually is often extremely difficult. Luckily, treatment is highly effective, and symptoms can be managed through therapy and medications.
