COVID-19-Sitter

As of 10/12/20 I am officially a babysitter. Even now I am sitting on a couch with a one- year-old beside me and a five-year-old on Zoom with his kindergarten class. It used to be a rare occasion when I’ve been asked to watch children, and I don’t typically hang out with children this young, so I’m learning new things constantly. Some important things to note: Kids love bribes, Elmo does speak decipherable English but only if you listen hard enough, all babies are communists (it’s “our” coffee, not your coffee), dogs will lick the inside of a baby’s mouth if given the opportunity, and diapers can hold a LOT more than you’d expect. A word to the wise? I haven’t found a small human that isn’t captivated by age appropriate music.

During this Pandemic babysitting is a very common job and a necessity for employed parents. Sadly, there’s always the risk of someone getting sick when you take a babysitting job. Whether it’s yourself, the kids, or the parents getting sick, it can’t be ignored that under-aged people need supervision when their parents are gone. Thus, a lot of people sacrifice quarantining because of their needs rather than out of spite for our government. Until someone gets sick here, I will continue coming to babysit because I know that it’s important to take care of impressionable youth. Now more than ever I must remember to wash my hands frequently, eat healthy, stay safe, and do my best to not get sick so I can continue babysitting for people who have no other options.
