2020 has had a total of 29 hurricanes, setting a record for the most active hurricane season. Subtropical Storm Theta formed in the Atlantic Ocean on Monday night. Although this storm will only stay in the ocean and not hit land, Tropical Storm Eta has already hit Southern Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. Due to Eta, almost 13,000 people were left without power. Eta is the 12th named storm to make landfall, surpassing the previous record set in 1916 with only nine.

Emergency disaster plans are in place in Cuba and Mexico, and relief efforts will continue in Guatemala and Honduras which were hit the hardest. In Honduras, 38 people have died, 8 are missing, and more than 60,000 have been evacuated. In the central Alta Verapaz region, 116 people remain missing mostly due to a landslide in a remote village.
