Yes, you read it correctly. This Belgian Racing Pigeon was sold for $1.9 million dollars. The hen’s name is New Kim, and she was sold at an auction at the Pipa pigeon center where a wealthy Chinese industrialist purchased her under the pseudonym Super Duper. The breeders of these birds rely on the generations of the same pigeon families to sell their expensive racing birds. If the parents were fast and easy to train, then their offspring would most likely be the same. Apparently, Belgium is the best place to purchase pigeons because of this. It is a year round task to breed these birds, but for $1.9 million dollars, it definitely seems worth it.
