Twitter Possibly Banned in India

Farmers in India have been protesting new laws made by Parliament that would make business more difficult. For months, they’ve been taking to the streets to protest against these actions made in September 2020. Unfortunately, things turned violent at one event in Delhi.

During today’s age of social media, we see many events through those private sites rather than the paper. Some users of the app protesting the farming laws in India expressed their disagreement while making some dangerous remarks that incited violence. One hashtag that was trending read “#modiplanningfarmersgenocide”. As a result, the app has been blocking these accounts to keep their platform safe.

The Indian government has requested that Twitter keeps an eye on such users; however, if Twitter doesn’t take action against all the accounts or continues to unblock the accounts, the app might just be banned as a whole. Chances of this happening are very slim (the government doesn’t exactly have the power to ban an entire app), but it’s been brought up quite a few times. People around the world have been wondering what will happen as a result.
