A 63-year-old woman in northern Texas believed that she was communicating with Bruno Mars on Instagram and gave him one hundred thousand dollars. She originally went on the social media app in search of some companionship, and the fake Bruno Mars reached out and contacted her, making her believe that he wanted to be in a meaningful relationship with her. Documents state that this woman fell in love with the fake account and believe that he was real because the Instagram account would send her pictures of the real Bruno Mars on tour. The fake account then asked for ten thousand dollars for ‘tour expenses” and to “help a friend of the band” and she gave him the money. The same scenario happened a few days later but they asked for ninety thousand dollars this time and she still gave him the money. Finally, a man by the name of Chinwendu Azuonwu was caught doing this, and he was caught and charged with third-degree money laundering with his bail being set at thirty thousand dollars.
