The impact that COVID-19 and the lockdown has had on everyone’s lives for the last year has been nothing short of an absolute trainwreck. A freshman from Redwood High School, Keira Bixler, noticed the impact more than many people in our world and decided to do something about it.

With the help of some friends, Bixler was able to create a tutoring program called Brainiacs Mentoring, which is free to use by K-8 students. It’s completely virtual so that students can still follow COVID guidelines. It’s only been a few months and according to ABC30.com, about 20 high school students have joined the program to become tutors for the younger students who may be struggling the most during this tough time. Bixler states that her plan as well as the program’s plan is to “grow as big as [they] can.” She also adds that “[the program has] lots of plans for the future and we want to reach as many people as possible.”
