The Start of the Golf Season

Girls and boys golf seasons have both successfully begun during the spring sports season. Normally the girls teams play fall season and the boys teams play spring, however, due to Covid-19, everyone has been pushed to spring. This year is looking a little bit different when juxtaposed to past years – for one there are now twice as many teams on one course. Normally there are four schools (Mt. Whitney, Redwood, Golden West, and El Diamante) on the course with one team each season, but now each school has two teams (boys and girls) on the course at the same time. One positive for now is Mt. Whitney is practicing on campus with a simulator and Golden west is practicing at the Visalia Country Club. They will join Redwood and El Diamante in March. As it is possible to imagine this makes things a bit more congested than normal. Luckily for the El Diamante team, there only have 5 varsity players who returned and three freshmen who are just starting out, meaning it is easy for them to squeeze in anywhere. Unluckily, for those schools with full varsity and junior varsity teams, it is a little bit harder for them to find space for their players to practice successfully and completely. Due to the high congestions, there has now been a schedule released for practice and which teams go where. Monday and Wednesday – El Diamante girls and boys are on the driving range, chipping range, and putting green while Redwood’s teams are on the course. Tuesdays and non-scrimmage Thursdays  – Redwood boys and girls are on the driving range, the chipping range, and the putting green while El Diamante’s teams are on the course. If this seems crazy right now with only 2 teams, what’s it going to look like in a couple weeks when we have twice as many schools with double the teams?
