MOVIE RECOMMENDATION
SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET
WARNING: This movie does contain many acts of gore and violence.
“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” takes place in old London (Victorian Era) and tells the story of a lone and once renowned barber: Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp). Todd was wronged and seeks revenge on those who hurt him. He sets up his barber shop above a meat pie shop, which is ran by a lovely lady named Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter). Together, the two plan Todd’s revenge in quite a gruesome fashion. Also, it’s a musical. Also also, it is directed by Tim Burton.
This movie combines light horror and comedy in just the right ways. It’s charm comes from its gothic style and nature, as well as the beautiful and powerful score that accompanies every major scene. This movie is not for the faint hearted though, as there are many scenes with blood and mild gore (nothing too disgusting, as the blood is made to look quite syrup-y). I suggest watching with subtitles, because the dialogue is tremendously clever and one cannot afford to miss it.
