Major League Baseball recently decided to allow teams to determine stadium capacity for the upcoming 2021 baseball season. While this is great news for Texas teams who have recently been “reopened” by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, teams that reside in California may not be so lucky. The Dodgers, for example, have recently been shown to charge upwards of 400 dollars a ticket to watch a rivalry game vs. the San Diego Padres. Dodger Stadium, which boasts new renovations that were intended to host the 2020 All-Star Game, has not been visited by fans since the heartbreaking NLDS loss to the eventual Champions the Washington Nationals. Dodger Stadium is the biggest stadium by capacity in the league as it could host 56,000 at full capacity. However, the projected plans for this season will not come close to the full capacity as even in a dream scenario with full vaccinations, it can only facilitate around 37,333 fans. While I commend Major League Baseball for their decision and the California Government for trying to be safe, it is disappointing that tickets are so expensive. Either way, it will be interesting to see the Dodgers defend their Championship title. I cannot wait for April 1st when this MLB season will begin.
