On March 7th 2021, an interview with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and Oprah had occurred. Meghan was explaining how it was like when living with the royal family and how she struggled with so much behind closed doors. She explained that some members of the royal family were concerned about how dark baby Archie’s skin would be before he was born in 2019. She stated, “In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time, so we have in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, not going to be given a title, and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.” This led Meghan having suicidal thoughts as though she already felt so alone. Oprah was so shocked to hear about this information and asked several times “What!” Others were also shocked about this turn of events. Archie would not have a royal title and wouldn’t be protected, regardless being the son of Prince Harry. As the couple spoke about more topics that were discussed, Prince Harry mentioned that his family cut off all of his finances. He also claimed that his father Charles, Prince of Wales would not answer any phone calls from him. Many have shown their opinion about the interview and all have been very disappointed, including the Queen herself. After not hearing from the family about the issue, Queen Elizabeth responded. On March 9th 2021, she stated, “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan…The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.” She also said that Harry and Meghan are beloved family members and would not wish them any harm. Throughout this time, the royal family are all discussing this matter and are going to do better in the near future.
