Last night the Cincinnati Reds came to San Francisco to play the Giants for the first game of the series. The Giants had Aaron Sanchez starting on the mound while the Reds were starting Wade Miley. Both Sanchez and Miley are back end starters so going into the game a pitching battle wasn’t expected. In the top of the third inning, Aaron Sanchez walked the Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart and gave up a two-run home run to the Reds left fielder and lead-off hitter, Jesse Winker. After the inning, Wade Miley continued to pitch a great game, going 4.2 innings allowing 1 hit and 0 runs.
He was taken out in the 5th inning for Tejay Antone, a young pitcher looking to make his mark in Major League Baseball and gain a starting spot for the Reds. Antone got out of the inning, bringing up the top of the 6th. Joey Votto, Reds legend and future Hall of Famer, hit the first homerun to go into McCovey Cove in Reds history off the lefty Garcia. 3-0.
Antone continued to pitch amazingly into the 9th inning. With one more out needed to win the game, Reds management brought in Lucas Sims to close the game and get his first career MLB save. Reds win 3-0
