Simone Biles is an U.S Olympic gymnast who was competing in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She is one of the greatest gymnasts who has amazing skills, but also very difficult skills that cause her to be in danger. She was in the Olympics for a couple of days when she decided she wanted to withdraw from the floor competition and the rest of the competitions because she was worried about her mental health from all the difficult events she was performing, making her not be in the right headspace. Due to that there was a lot of controversy on why she decided to withdraw.
Many others were saying why she was quitting, “athletes don’t quit, they keep on pushing themselves.¨ While others were saying how someone’s mental health is much more important than winning a gold medal. In her interview she stated, “I say put mental health first before your sport,” Biles said of her decision. “I had to do what’s right for me and not jeopardize my health and well-being. That’s why I decided to take a step back and let [my teammates] do their work.” This is very self-explanatory. She was much more worried about her health because that is long term that can hurt you in the future. If you focus on your health now and get better, then athletes can get their gold medals when they know they are ready and prepared.
