Craig Montiero is El Diamante High School’s new Agriculture teacher. When you see Mr. Montiero at first glance, you can already tell he’s a very likeable teacher. Montiero chose teaching in AG because he loves it, he was born into it, he said “As I got a little bit older, I felt that I needed to pass my agricultural experience, and my skill set, onto the next generation.” This is a great reason to start teaching, if you teach about something you love, you’ll enjoy the experience so much more. Some of his favorite things about teaching are the students, the interactions, and seeing all the different points of views his students have on the subjects he is teaching. It helps challenge what he feels and believes, “…and at the same time you know, it’s seeing that students are engaged, and that’s what puts a smile on my face.” A little more about Montiero’s personal life is that he is married to his wife Carrie and he has one son, whose name is Melvin. Melvin is also nicknamed The Terminator because he loves to tear stuff up, according to Montiero he only has one speed. High speed. His hobbies include looking at machines, in his words “I’m very mechanically inclined.” He likes working on old equipment, he enjoys how they put things together 60-100 years ago. One thing he said is fascinating is “the advancement of the technology back then was awesome, watching that through working on old equipment.” Another thing he likes is motor sports, anything that is fast and loud, he loves it. Last but not least, one thing he enjoys most in the world is the feeling of being content. He said something that intrigued me. He said “is that feeling of, hey you know I like where I’m at, I like what’s going on, everything’s okay.” Interviewing Mr.Monteiro was an awesome experience, he is definitely a one of a kind teacher.
