The theme of Homecoming 2021 at El Diamante High School was Disney+. The different ideas for the theme of the week consisted of a decades theme, a roaring 20s theme, a world travelling theme, a candyland theme, and a western theme, but Disney+ won the popular vote by a majority. Disney+ is a streaming service that requires a subscription and offers a variety of different movies, including Pixar, Disney, National Geographic, and Marvel.

The four days of Homecoming week (Monday was a holiday) are dedicated to each category in the Disney+ app. The four categories are Pixar, Marvel, Disney, and National Geographic. Tuesday, September 7th, was called “Toy Story Tuesday”, where students were encouraged to dress up as a character from the Pixar movie, Toy Story, or wear western or yellow attire. Wednesday, September 8th, was “Wakanda Wednesday”, a tribute to the Marvel movies, where students could have worn either Avenger/superhero attire or the color black. Thursday, September 9th, was called “Te Fiti Thursday”, in honor of the Disney Movie, Moana. The dress up theme for Thursday was either dress up as a character from Moana, wear Hawaiian attire, or wear pink. The last day of the week, Friday, September 10th, was called “Go Wild Friday”, after National Geographic. Students were encouraged to wear green in support of school colors. The Homecoming game was also on Friday at the Groppetti Stadium.

Throughout the week, ASB put on different lunch-time activities for each theme throughout the week. Those on the Homecoming court competed against one another in challenges and anyone else who wanted to join was welcomed to do so. On Friday during Homeroom, the Media Arts Academy and ASB put on an outside Homecoming Rally that was broadcasted on Zoom for all of the homerooms to watch from a safe distance. There were performances by chamber choir, cheer, dance, and band. The ladies on the court were introduced to the school and rolled up to the rally in fancy cars. At the end of the rally, the head football coach, Mr. Frankland, and the varsity football team encouraged students to come to the game to support the team later that night.

At the game on Friday night, the Homecoming queen was announced at halftime. Each nominee opened a box with flowers in it simultaneously and the girl with the different colored flowers was the queen. El Diamante’s 2021 Homecoming queen is Miss Lelia Mendez. Although the team ultimately lost the game on Friday night, Homecoming 2021 was ultimately a success for El Diamante.
