Throughout the years the Star Wars franchise has brought us many classic films and incredible TV shows and cartoons, but one of the major pieces of media that is often overlooked are the incredible video games that were birthed from the franchise. Prior to Disney taking full control of Lucasfilm, game developers had free reign over the use of the star wars franchise and were allowed to use content derived from it in whatever way they wanted. In fact, after the development of these games, George Lucas would sometimes consider the events in said game a part of the canon in the Star wars universe, meaning that the events that took place in those video games were officially made part of the same universe in which the movies took place. This incredible freedom and an opportunity to add to an already incredibly expansive and popular universe such as Star Wars led to the production of many incredible award winning video games in the early 2000’s, one of the most notable being “Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic”. Released in 2003 and eventually winning multiple awards and going down as one of the most iconic star wars games ever made, Knights Of The Old Republic (KOTOR for short) was an incredible story-based RPG game that provided an incredible amount of content for players to explore while also implementing engaging turn-based combat and Bethesda-like dialogue options and side missions. All of these great features along with a captivating main storyline made KOTOR an instant classic, with a second installment coming out shortly after which had similar success. But unfortunately due to lack of motivation and internal issues with the developers in charge, the long awaited third installment of the franchise never came. For years there was no sign of a return, since the release of the second game in December of 2004 the series has laid dormant and untouched. That was, until recently during a Sony Play Station showcase a single short clip was shown. The clip being Revan (the character you play as in game) appearing and activating his iconic purple lightsaber. This reveal had fans pumped for a new KOTOR game, which was revealed to be a direct remaster of the original game that will initially be Play Station exclusive but hopefully eventually be ported over to Xbox and PC. But although there are no confirmed dates for the release of the game, Star Wars fans are continuing to build hype for the eventual re-release of this classic RPG game.
