Why Pro Choice?

Abortion is a very controversial topic because everyone has a different opinion about it. An abortion is the termination of a pregnancy before it can be carried to term. I believe it is solely a woman’s decision to decide whether or not she wants to keep a baby or abort it before it can actually develop inside her. Many people believe that abortion is wrong and that the government should restrict and punish women who get abortions, however this is unethical because they are asking the government to punish people who are just looking out for what is right for their body at this point in time. The controversy in the political party is that the Republicans desire to restrict abortion laws limiting access to abortions while the Democrats seek to lift the restrictions to ensure safe and healthy abortions. Abortions bear a central connection to the women’s rights movement because women feel that anti-abortion laws is a wormhole for males to have control over females choices, bodies, and lives. In the late 19th century the American Medical Association held a long campaign disapproving the act of abortion, so in some states abortion was illegal. Although some states held exceptions for abortions if the pregnancy was a result of rape or the pregnancy was putting the woman’s life at risk. The Pro Choice movement is widely supported by the Democrat party who wishes to keep protecting women’s right to choose what’s best for them. To conclude, abortion and any reproductive decisions regarding a woman’s health should be a matter of personal choice and not the law.
