On September 14th, An evacuation warning was issued for all structures and areas within Edison Drive, Cherokee Oaks Drive, Crystal Drive, Grouse Drive, Elk Drive, Meadow Drive, Quail Drive, Oak Ridge Drive, Ferndale Drive, Terminus Drive, Pierce Drive, and Red Tail Lane. The hotels are filling up fast and Three River’s hotels will house firefighters battling the blazes. Park officials added that some of their efforts will focus on trees, leaving buildings behind. “Within the park, some of those trees are more important than some of our buildings,” Superintendent Clay Jordan said. “People come from around the world to see the General Sherman tree, and that’s been here for almost 3,000 years. And so we want people to come 300 years from now to enjoy those trees. Some of the buildings we have will be falling apart in 30 years. That’s the scale of things. It’s a little unusual.” Residents added that the county alert system is not working, saying many didn’t get text alert to leave the area. A Type 1 Incident Command team — an elite team reserved for the nation’s most complicated blazes — will arrive by the end of the week. A Type 2 team arrived today and was absorbed into operations.
