Mind Your Beeswax

I believe that people should mind their own business. Now, that may seem a little vague and honestly it is.  As humans, we are created to be unique and different from everyone else. We all have contrasting beliefs, qualities,  and interests and that’s okay. The first amendment in our Constitution gives us freedoms of speech and expression, the ability to practice any religion without discrimination, gives us the right to petition, but most importantly gives us the right and freedom to our individuality.

I’m currently a senior in high school, I recently turned 18 years old which has marked a huge milestone in my life so far. All the other ages I passed through my journey to adulthood, I’ve noticed that I never felt satisfied living in the moment. Looking back on all those years, it’s made me realize that I was lost and looking for direction. I had no idea who I wanted to become, the consequences of my impulsive actions, the people I was affecting terribly with my poor choices. But, as of recently I have found the outdated solution of why I acted out the way I did and hopefully it will help you learn from your own faults as well. I would have been fine if I had minded my own business.

The reason I’m telling you this is because as I have continued to observe my fellow student’s actions and reactions I have noticed that the biggest mistake teenagers make is focusing on what everyone else is doing instead of focusing on more important things like grades and moving up in life. A student’s environment is the primary factor to their own success, this is also why it’s important to surround themself around positive influences and educate themselves on the things they struggle understanding. The reluctance to “mind your own beeswax” can lead to many issues, the comparison of your peers which can lead to development in insecurities, fights both physical and emotional usually fueled by jealousy, it can cause anxiety and many other mental illnesses.

That being said, do yourself a favor and stay away from those that can’t stand you being you. Do yourself a favor and find people that accept you and want you to strive to be the best you possible. Some teenagers can be cruel and draining and in most situations there is nothing you can do to them except to disregard it. Conflict is not always something you can easily avoid, but make sure to handle the situation calmly and maturely.

Even now I sometimes have issues with minding my own business, though I’ve never given up. It may be a long or short process, either way it takes time and patience. Recognize your true friends and recognize those who will push you back. Your future matters.
