WHOLE LOTTA RED ALBUM REVIEW

On December 25th, Playboi Carti dropped his long awaited album, ¨Whole lotta Red¨. This album was long anticipated by fans of this rapper and knowing that he released the album even on Christmas surprises fans and even counts it as a Christmas present for the oneś that have been waiting for this album since day one. Playboi Carti had released two albums before which were his Self titled album and his 2018 album titled ¨Die Lit¨.

This album has a lot of diversity in it, the production is pretty good and has a lot of good features like Kid Cudi, Kanye West, and that’s pretty much the only stand out features from this album. Fans of Playboi Carti had gotten mad at him for lying about releasing the album beforehand but he finally released it on Christmas and it got fans pretty excited to see that he had finally dropped this anticipated album.

There are some flaws in this album, there are a lot of tracks I don’t personally like because it feels like it’s just generic songs we have heard in the beginning tracks of the album itself. The features were pretty good but not a lot of stand out features only really two. This album was very anticipated but I feel like it did not live up to the potential I thought it would have. Obviously Carti had to change some of the songs on WLR because of the songs leaking but I rather have leaked songs we have had either snippets or the entire song before than have some not so good throwaway songs which there were a handful on this album.

I feel like this album could have been a really good album because Playboi Carti had not disappointed with his previous two albums but with the whole vibe and mood change from your ordinary rapper to a rockstar vampire themed rapper was a big switch in his style that has yet to grow on me. This flip in his style was very sudden and I just feel like it needs to grow on me more since I liked Die Lit and Self titled a lot. I will definitely give Carti his credit at making something new and something nobody has done before. This whole project felt new, it felt unique and I think he earns extra points just for that, just for the unique feelings and sound  coming from this album.

Personally I’m going to give this album a solid 7. I feel like Carti had tried something new and it definitely worked but It’s just not for me. There are some good stand out tracks like Stop Breathing, ILoveuIhateu, Slay3r, Rockstar Made, and Vamp Anthem. These tracks are very Rockstar punk but also a mixture of that Old Carti vibe I like. This project is definitely a mixed opinion for me, there are some good things but also some bad things that bring it down and I think a solid 7 to a very high 6 is the appropriate rating for this album.
