Murder in Music

As music has developed and is still developing I have personally noticed that songs and lyrics have been getting more and more violent yet their audience revels in it, encouraging it. Is our acceptance of this violent music yet another sign of how civilization is slowly becoming unraveled?

For example, many songs on Tik Tok have become popular and to be specific these are violent and murderous songs. I admit that even I enjoy listening to them, they have a nice melody and in quality are actually good songs, but it’s what we do with these songs that show how they affect us. One of these songs that have become popular are “Chop Chop Slide” By Insane Clown Posse. Tik Tokers have made it a trend to fake stab and murder someone to the lyrics of “Now murder, chop chop”. Many people admit in the comments or the captions that this was a good release for their anger. Let me clarify, people have admitted that passionately fake killing someone made them feel better.

Another song that has gone viral is “The Red Means I Love You” by Madds Buckley, the lyrics consist of divulging in the blood of someone else and loving it. Don’t get me wrong, the song is beautifully made with the harmony and the variations of different instruments played at the same time, it’s a good song. But most people find that they are favoring this song simply because of the underlying message of the lyrics. The lyrics can be portrayed in many ways but a majority of people have concluded that the lyrics are about murder, where again in another song people are finding themselves captivated with the passion of killing.

Maybe these songs are becoming popular because it is October, or in other words, the spooky season. But maybe just maybe these songs are becoming popular because people are idealizing murder. And if that is true, what can we do to stop it or would people even care enough to bring attention to this matter before it gets out of hand.
