Although there are many popular movie titles and book series that capitalize on their popularity by making video games (The Witcher, Star Wars, Metro series) there is one popular movie/book series, in fact, one of the MOST popular movie/book series that hasn’t capitalized on their popularity by making games. The Harry Potter series has effectively established itself as one of the greatest book series of all time with the world within it being vast and full of possibilities. Coming from someone who plays a lot of videogames and has read the book series, I am baffled and honestly disappointed that there haven’t been any very good video games stemming from the series as its world is set up to be one of the most engaging and vast that the industry has to offer. There have been other Harry Potter games in the past but they were definitely… underwhelming to say the least, with the best out of the bunch honestly being the Lego spinoff games they made back in 2010 (which weren’t great).
But recently there was a brand new Harry Potter game announced to come out in 2022, with short clips shown of early access gameplay for the trailer. It is said that it will start out as an open-world online RPG game where you can explore the entire campus of Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the forbidden forest and interact with other players while learning all the intricate spells and tinkering with the vast magic system that the Harry Potter world has to offer. Although there isn’t much information regarding the game as of now, the amount of potential this game holds is huge and the untapped intricacies and gameplay options of the Harry Potter universe in videogame format may finally be realized.
