Las Vegas prosecutors say 22-year-old Henry Ruggs III, a wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders, was driving his Chevrolet Corvette at an insane speed of 156 mph before slowing down to 127 mph and rear-ending another car, a Toyota RAV 4, causing the car to rupture its fuel tank, explode, and kill 23-year-old Tina O. Tintor and her dog on Tuesday.
Prosecutors say Ruggs was filmed partying right before the crash happened at around 3:30 a.m. His blood-alcohol level was twice the amount of Nevada’s limit, and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Kiara Je’nai Kilgo was in the car with him when the crash occurred. Police said that Ruggs showed “signs of impairment” at the scene.
According to court records, Ruggs is facing charges of driving under the influence, causing death or substantial bodily injury, and reckless driving; both are felonies. “We are devastated by the loss of life and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family,” the Las Vegas Raiders said in a statement.
As of right now, Ruggs was released from the football team and had a set bail of $150,000, which was paid off. He was picked 12th overall in the 2020 draft as the Raiders’ top pick and is known for his speed and athleticism.
