El Diamante students have made multiple instagram accounts consisting of many different themes. Some examples-
- El D Most Hated
- El D Sniffers (When someone leaves their mask right under their nose)
- El D PDA account (Public Display of Affection)
- El D Singles Account
Some of these accounts are harmless, such as the El D Pets account-
but others encourage hatred, bullying, and overall an invasion of peoples’ privacy. Students’ have taken it upon themselves to take pictures of people, without their consent/permission, and send them to certain accounts for them to post or they just post it themselves. This is seen as a comedic joke, something to jest about but it is so much more than that. It is completely disrespectful to not only the school -because people are using El Diamante in their username- but also to the people who are being posted.
Although the account may be funny at times and make you laugh, it does not give you the right to participate in this form of bullying. You may find it entertaining until you are the victim of one of the accounts. Yes, victim is a strong word to use, but in some cases involving these Instagram posts, they are victims. No one likes to be told how much they are hated at school but to have someone post it online for hundreds to see is cruel and inhumane. As soon as our society in school deems it socially unacceptable to post and run these invasive accounts, then people will be too ashamed or embarrassed to continue participating. The only problem with this is that students will have to be brave in a new way, undermining the malice of their peers, and which one of us is brave enough to do that?
