My Friend Dahmer

Over the course of winter break, my friends have recommended some films to me. They requested that I watch My Friend Dahmer, the film that gives insight into the infamous serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, and the events that led to his murders. The movie stars Ross Lynch, who played Dahmer and expressed the vivid emotions that went on before his killing spree.

The film revolves around Jeffrey Dahmer’s personal and public life at his home and at school. He was a very quiet and reserved student, and he was really meticulous with his “projects” at home.

Dahmer had a fascination of collecting dead animals and seeing what was inside them. His father was a chemical scientist and would often give Dahmer his own chemicals to use as experiments. His “experiments” involved getting roadkill and pouring chemicals, mostly acid, on the animals to see what happens.

He “bonded” with a group of boys at his school by spazzing out in front of everyone in the hallways, classrooms, and anywhere else. The boys were treating Jeffrey like he was an animal and only became friends with him for comedic reasons. They would force Dahmer to spazz out in other public places outside of school. Wanting to make friends was all that Dahmer wanted to do, so he accepted every request the boys gave him.

At home, he dealt with his parents feuding and threatening to divorce each other almost every day. He was very overwhelmed being at school and being in his own home, and he became a very numb kid. Soon enough, he snapped. His first victim was a man who was looking for a ride somewhere. Dahmer offered him a ride, and he was never seen or heard from again.

Overall, the film was really impressive. I felt really bad for Dahmer, since his life was pretty much in shambles. However, I personally think he could have turned his personal fascination with bones and dead things into a career instead of becoming a serial killer. Either way, the movie was great, and Ross Lynch portrayed Jeffrey Dahmer really well. I would rate this movie 8/10, and I recommend this film to those who haven’t watched it.
