Love Of The Hunt

Continuing on from a topic I’ve done before, hunting. This time I’m going more in-depth and I interviewed my friend Mason Muzquiz again. He is from Texas, and he has been hunting since he was old enough to hold a gun. This sparked more interest and I asked if this was something that was self-taught or was it something he learned from another person. He told me that he taught himself many tips and tricks but his father introduced them to him. The sport of hunting interests me a lot, as I’ve said before and I wanted to know more about and as much as I could.

There are many different weapons you could use while hunting, ranging from guns to knives, and bows. I asked Mason specifically what his favorite weapon to use was, and he told me his bow. I’ll include a series of photos he sent me at the end. From photos/videos he’s sent me, he used a couple different weapons. I had also wondered if there was a good time to hunt, and he had told me that it depends on the species and the season they’re in. This piqued my interest and I asked what specific type of animals he hunts. He told me “In the hill country we have exotics, axis, sika, wild hogs, turkey, and aoudad whitetail deer.” If you didn’t know, axis and sika are a type of deer.

As long as I’ve known Mason, there have been many occasions where he was hunting, and I had always wondered what he did with the animals after he killed them. And since he’d been hunting for so long I wondered if there were any specific stories he had or if he remembered all the animals he’s killed. He told me he vividly remembers the story of every trophy animal he’s killed. If you didn’t know, trophy hunting is hunting wild animals as trophies. As for what he does with the animals after he kills them, he told me “I eat most of them, so I skin them, remove the organs, and process the meat myself, or take it to a processor to have hamburger, sausage, etc made.” As a joke, I asked Mason if he’s ever been chased by an animal, and to my surprise he has. He told me he has been actively stalked by wild hogs at night. I probably would have been terrified. The sport of hunting is very interesting and has continued to spark my interest. I’m very glad I had the chance to interview Mason and get more information about this.

I will include some photos below.
