So in Advanced 3D Art, our first project is paper quilling, it’s a technique from the 15th century and possibly earlier. Nuns used it to decorate pictures of Jesus and other religious figures. It was first done with precious metals like gold and silver, but since they were broke and couldn’t afford to quill with gold and silver; they did the process with paper but dusted the paper with gold and silver dust to give it the illusion of gold and silver.
Paper quilling is fairly easy, the only hard part of it is making the tight coils and shaping them into squares and diamonds. They are so hard to shape. The coil is so small and shaping paper so small is very difficult to do. That’s the only issue I have with paper quilling. It’s easy and fun to do. It reminds me of zentangles almost with how it looks but I don’t like zentangles.
Okay so update, we got our project and I am actually in love with paper quilling. Just the detail control makes me very happy and I think this is going to be one of the best advanced 3D art projects yet!
