The El Diamante High School girls soccer team has done exceptionally well this season, better than they have in many years. For the 2021-2022 soccer season, the girls’ varsity team placed second in the West Yosemite League, behind Redwood. The team won six games, lost three, and tied one, which allowed them to go to the playoffs in Division II of the central section. Their first playoff game was against Madera High School at Madera High School on Tuesday, February 15th. Madera was ranked #6 in Division II and El Diamante was ranked #11. The first goal for El Diamante was scored by Bella Villareal in the first four minutes of the game and Jackie Saechao scored the second goal for El Diamante. Madera then scored their first goal after El Diamante’s second. Madeline Alvarez scored El Diamante’s third goal in the second half and Madera scored their second goal off a penalty kick in the box. El Diamante ultimately won the game 3-2 in a hard-fought battle. They will be playing Bullard High School on Thursday, February 17th at Bullard. Come support your Miners!
