Where Did Cupid Come From?

Valentine’s Day. When we think about Valentine’s we usually think about flowers, chocolates, and the winged angel – Cupid, but do you know where the love angel comes from?

Cupid actually originated in ancient Greek and Roman mythology. Cupid, as expected, is the Roman god of love. Cupid is also the Roman counterpart to Greece’s Eros, another winged being who shoots arrows of love. From what we know, Cupid is the son of Mercury and Venus. Mercury is the winged messenger of the gods and Venus is the goddess of love. He was first depicted as a baby with wings and a bow and arrow and while that has somewhat changed over the years it’s still pretty accurate with the cupid we all know today.
