The Oscars this year took place on Sunday, March 27th in Hollywood, California with one more altercation than originally anticipated. Comedian and host, Chris Rock was hit in the middle of his performance by actor Will Smith after making an off-putting joke about his wife, Jada Smith.
Rock made a reference to the movie G.I. Jane, a role Demi Moore took on and shaved her head for. Jada Smith had a medical condition affecting her hair, causing her to lose it, and Will Smith did not appreciate it. As an act to defend his wife, Smith took it upon himself to walk on stage and smack Rock before going back to his seat and yelling profanities.
After the awards, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced that they do not condone Smith’s actions or any violence of any kind. The Los Angeles Police Department released a statement as well saying that “The individual involved has declined to file a police report.”
