Lately, a debate has been taking over social media on whether or not there are more doors or wheels in the world. When you first initially hear about this debate, it sounds like either of those could be correct. I know when I first heard about it, I had a tough time choosing a side. Now that I’ve had a chance to actually think about it, it seems so obvious to me that there are more wheels than doors.
When people argue on behalf of doors, they always bring up hotels, hospitals, and office buildings. Yes, those places have a lot of rooms, which means they have a lot of doors, but when you take the time to think about it, there are way more wheels in all of those places. Let’s start with hotels because this one is very obvious to me. There are around 2-5 doors in a hotel room on average, but think about how many suitcases are brought into those rooms. For a regular family of let’s say 3 people, each person would bring at least one suitcase. That’s 12 wheels right there which is already double the number of doors in the hotel. Hospitals are even more obvious to me. Almost everything in there is on wheels because of the need to transfer patients and supplies. And for office buildings, think of all of the office chairs. Rolling desks. There is just so much to prove the point that there are more wheels in the world than doors.
My final, and most important argument is something people tend to ignore. Even if it was a close tie with how many doors or wheels are in use in the world, no one ever stops to think about how often you need to replace wheels when they break. Think of all the spare wheels in the world that are just in storage, waiting to be used. How often do you need to replace a door? Almost never. Of course, doors do still need to be replaced, but not nearly as often as wheels do.
Overall, regarding the debate on whether there are more doors or wheels in the world, it is very apparent that there are more wheels for many reasons.
