Today I had the honor of interviewing the tennis star, Beckham Ybarra. He told me many interesting facts about tennis. He plays for El Diamante boys tennis, and he is fifth on varsity, as a sophomore. Beckham has had the privilege to make it to Area with Darren Fisher, the number 4 seed, on the El Diamante boys tennis team. Tennis is something Beckham is very passionate about, he told me his best way to warm up before a match is to listen to music. Especially country music. His favorite song to warm up to right now is ‘She’s Country” by Jason Aldean. The type of grip he uses is a semi-western grip on the racquet which provides a lot of topspin and uses a one-handed backhand. I’ve had the privilege of watching a few of his matches, he’s a great team player. He has amazing sportsmanship. In the individual tournament on Thursday, the duo defeated Mount Whitney’s number one double and Lemoore’s number two double. The team put up a fight after being down 7:2 in a set to 8 and came back to make it 7:7 and lost the next match but came back to make it 8:8 to make it go to a seven-point tiebreaker. The duo came to a devastating loss in a 5:7 tiebreaker against the Rangers.
