Debanhi Escobar was found decomposed in a water tank at Motel Nueva Castilla north of Monterrey. Her father, Mario Escobar paced his trust to authorities after her disappearance on April 9. Debanhi and her friends- according to social media Ivonne, Alejandra, and Jessari- went to a house party in the neighborhood of Nueva Castilla on Friday, April 8. It is said that at the party she got into an unknown argument with one of these friends and left the house while calling a “trusted contact” to pick her up. Early hours of the next day or late the night, April 9th, she left alone with the taxi driver her friends called earlier, who was known as “Jesus.” For unknown reasons, she exited the car and was left alone on the highway that connects Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo, further north. Her father told CBS News that nearby security camera footage, according to prosecutors, “suggested the driver inappropriately touched his daughter.” She was last seen walking into a trucking company asking for help. They got all the surveillance videos but some footage had completely disappeared. On Tuesday, April 12, the 47-year-old taxi driver known as Jesus, was later identified as Juan David Cuellar who was arrested for unrelated charges. He was not charged for the disappearance or death of Debanhi and was released. He was previously investigated for harassment and attempted kidnapping of women, according to Daily Mail. On the evening of Thursday, April 22, her body was found in an underground water tank of Motel Nueva Castilla. She was submerged in water for nearly two weeks, leaving her body unrecognizable. The Attorney General’s office put out a theory that she might have accidentally fallen into the 12-foot water tank, her family has called this idea a “lie.” Her father told the media “I publicly accuse Juan David Cuellar of all this.”
