It’s Okay

It’s okay to take breaks. It’s okay to prioritize mental health. It’s okay to not always work your hardest. Productivity should not have to come at the expense of your physical and mental health. Capitalism has normalized overworking and overproduction due to an unrealistic expectation of infinite economic expansion.

This can look like this:

  • Working extra hours regularly
  • Work constantly taking up mental space, even outside the workday
  • Guilt when taking breaks or resting
  • No true sense of free time
  • Never being satisfied with your work
  • Constant feeling of not doing enough

The pandemic has led to a rise in telework closing the gap between home and leisure. This means that it’s more important than ever to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Here are some things you can try:

  • Establish a clear boundary between your workday and the rest of the day. Avoid checking emails and overthinking
  • Try a new hobby. You don’t need to be good at it, but you can dedicate time to something you enjoy
  • Practice self-care. Prioritize your mental and physical setting aside time to engage in self-care
