On May 2nd, many celebrities gathered for the Met Gala, dressing in the theme “Gilded Glamor”. Many celebrities nailed this theme, and other outfits were… questionable. Kim Kardashian’s outfit was beautiful, yet controversial, as she wore the exact dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 when she sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy.
What angers people about Kim wearing this iconic gown is that it was meant to be preserved and not be worn by anyone except Marilyn Monroe. I believe Marilyn Monroe herself said that this gown should be saved. Kim actually went on a strict diet before getting into the dress because it didn’t fit her, which also made people frustrated with her.The gown was specifically designed for Marilyn, and it hurt many Marilyn Monroe fans.
Another thing that angered fans was that Kim only wore Marilyn’s gown during photoshoots, and took it off for the rest of the night. A lot of people think she should’ve just worn the other dress the entire time. Some people think Kim did this for “fame”, and others think she was just being plain disrespectful towards Marilyn. In my opinion, the gown did fit the theme, but I don’t think it was Kim’s place to take the dress and wear it, especially if it was supposed to be preserved.
