Nobody, Copy’s John Wick But Sure Is Funny Action

Nobody is a rip-off of John Wick, Bob Odenkirk can’t be an action hero in any way! However Nobody may copy John-Wick but it is original in some ways, somehow Odenkirk pulls off being a funny action hero. The action is just as brutal as John Wick with some gags, along with funny music that goes along with the movie.

It should be no surprise that Nobody is almost the same as John Wick. Because Derek Kolstad, the same writer who wrote John Wick also wrote Nobody. But the movie tries to be original in some ways. The main character is Hutch Cambell, a former CIA hitman, who has a boring dull life with a broken marriage with a family he’s not happy with. But after a break-in that he easily could have stopped, leaves his family more broken. But when the robbers took his daughter’s kitty bracelet, he vows to gain it back through any means necessary. He gains it back but he severely injures a relative of a very powerful Russian crime lord known as Yuilan. This starts a conflict between Hutch against Yulian but the thing is Hutch always missed the dangerous, risky violent lifestyle he once had. To break the repeating, bland, boring life. He cures stress by madness. The thing is Hutch enjoys, loves, seeing violence as a fun hobby of a past time along with his dad, a retired FBI agent (played by Christopher Lloyd, yes Doc from Back to the Future plays a shotgun-wielding elderly who loves killing criminals), along with his stepbrother or best friend played by Harry Mansell. Hutch smiles, even begging for fights to happen so he can kill people for a reason.

Odenkirk pulls off being a funny action hero somehow. Odenkirk plays well into the middle-aged man who is suffering from a mid-life crisis. But what works is that we see a typical suburban man with a boring life turn into a brutal man who enjoys violence. But it’s funny as the audience sees he has a heart as during a firefight he picks up a kitten, adopting after a brutal massacre he committed on the mob by the way. There is this over-the-top, comedic tone that the movie acknowledges for what it is. A funny action movie. The movie may be brutal, fast-paced, and serious at some points but overall it’s darkly funny most of the time.

The action is brutal. Want to see a man get his throat sliced by glass, done. Want Hutch to talk to dead men about his life, done. Want to see a man after he gets blown up by claymore? Done. The action is brutal, in your face as I flinch in some parts I almost had to look away as it was shocking how brutal the movie was.

Overall, if you want a brutal movie with dark comedic jokes that was written by the writer of John Wick. Then watch nobody, you won’t be disappointed.

(It’s interesting to see Odenkirk who stars as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad along with Better Call Saul, a crooked lawyer, is now playing a retired spy who goes back to violence to break the cycle of boredom).
