“A Long Way Down” by Jason Reynolds has a very suspenseful, yet anticlimactic ending. This book is set up as many different small poems to tell one big story. As a whole, this book was good and kept the readers on their toes, but the ending was slightly disappointing for me personally. The book ends unresolved and it is left up to the readers to determine what will happen next; some people may enjoy that, however, others may feel frustrated with the ending. After reading this book you will find a very eye-opening message that comes along with the narrative. This big story of multiple poems together is meant to show the readers a great lesson; one pull of a gun’s trigger could change lives forever. Throughout the narrative it shows how one action can cause many grieves; it displays what consequences can come from one mistake. This book is definitely a short, but very powerful read that engages its audience.
